Leírás:
In his tragically brief life, Robert Hayward Barlow (1918-1951) accomplished more than many who have lived twice his age. Collector, editor, fiction-writer, poet, scholar, Barlow could have become a leading figure in many fields had he not committed suicide at thirty-two. Included her are two documents of supreme importance in understanding Barlow and his relations with his early mentor H. P. Lovecraft: "Memories of Lovecraft (1934)", a series of notes on Lovecraft's two-month-log visit with him in Florida, published here in an unadultered from for the first time; and his "Autobiography", a previously unpublished account of his life following the death of Lovecraft. Both pieces reveal that keenness of intellect and sensitivity of temperament which produced such poignant weird tales as "A Dim-Remembered Story" and "The Night Ocean" and such evocative poetry as A View from a Hill. As Barlow's "Autobiography" was not originally intended for publication, he deals with many topics, including his own homosexuality, quite openly. Therefore, this publication may not be appropriate for all readers. With a lengthy introduction and notes by S. T. Joshi. |
